Wike Leads People’s Protest (The Tide)

The Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, yesterday, led thousands of Rivers people to the streets to protest the alleged killings by the police and other security agencies during the December 10 rerun elections.  The governor and other protesters had taken off from the Government House, Port Harcourt at 8am, and marched through Azikiwe Street and Bank Road before stopping at the Rivers State Police headquarters on Moscow Road.  Wike had waited patiently for about 30 minutes before the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Cyril Okoro, came out and spoke through the gate.  The governor, who later addressed the police, explained that the people of Rivers State were at the Police headquarters to inform the authorities that they were tired of the killings of innocent people in the state by the police and other security operatives.

Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike on Friday, January 29, had a street parade in some parts of Port Harcourt, the state capital, and Obio-Akpor local Government area after his victory at  the Supreme Court as a means to ‘meet’ with the ordinary  people of the state during  a “Meet the people victory  parade” across the major residential areas.

Justice Daisy Okocha Retires, A. I. Iyayi-Lamikanra Steps In As Acting Chief Judge of Rivers State

The Rivers State governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike had earlier today sworn in Justice A. I. Iyayi-Lamikanra as the acting Chief Judge of the State, after the due retirement of Justice Daisy Okocha. The retired Justice Daisy Okocha who only became the Rivers State Chief Judge on the 4th of January 2016 graduated with honours in 1978 from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and was called to the Nigerian Bar on 29th June 1979,  she joined the Rivers State Judiciary in April 1981 as a Grade one Magistrate, and was then promoted in 1991 to the position of a Judge of the High Court of Rivers State.
